Exploring Lincoln: Attending a Dwell Dinner
Part of my mission in exploring Lincoln isn’t just to try out new restaurants or discover small businesses — it’s to get to know new people as well. Attending a Dwell Dinner definitely helped me achieve that goal.
I’ve lived in Lincoln for almost seven years, but I feel like I haven’t done much branching out. Even while I was in school here, I pretty stayed within my comfort zone. Most of the friends I spent time with in college were people I knew in high school. There isn’t anything wrong with that, but now, as an adult, I feel like I need to spread my wings.
All of that said, I’ve been searching for ways to put myself out there and meet other creatives and business-minded people in Lincoln. I’ve attended a few Rise Lincoln events, which are fabulous for women and I would definitely recommend checking them out and following them on Facebook. I also stumbled upon Dwell Dinners.
I came upon the idea of Dwell Dinners one night when I fell down the rabbit hole on Instagram. Someone I followed, followed someone else who had recently attended a Dwell Dinner. So, what is a Dwell Dinner? I went to the website and found out it’s a sit-down dinner with incredible food and quality conversation amongst strangers — all put on by a University of Nebraska – Lincoln student who wished someone would host such an event, so she started doing it herself. Her name is Brooke.
Brooke is a fabulous cook and host. Her dinners aren’t just filled with awesome people with interesting perspectives on life, they’re filled with incredible food. If you’re unsure about signing up to attend, go just for the food. It’s worth feeling slightly uncomfortable for the first few minutes, trust me. A few of things on the menu for my dinner included friend blueberry goat cheese, fried avocado, golden beet salad and roasted watermelon radishes.
I HIGHLY recommend attending a Dwell Dinner if you live in the Lincoln area. If you don’t, start hosting your own Dwell Dinners. I met some fabulous people at the one I attended and immediately signed up for another one in hopes of meeting even more great people. If you want to sign up, click here and scroll down. Thanks for doing this Brooke!
