A Surprise for My Dad and My 25th Birthday in NYC
My 25th birthday was the best one yet and not because it was all about celebrating me. It was hard not to talk about the plans my dad’s wife, Lesa, and I had been plotting since January, but we finally made it and now the secret is out! Here’s the story incase you missed it on my Instagram.
I knew I wanted to do something for my birthday, and decided heading east to New York City would be the best way to celebrate. Initially I thought a trip with my girlfriends would be fun, but then we all realized it was Easter weekend and they had plans with family. So, I started thinking about who else might want to go and then it hit me!
My dad’s birthday was coming up a month before mine and it was about to be he and his wife’s anniversary AND Trevor I’s anniversary is a few days before my birthday. Long story short, we had a lot of reasons to celebrate. I called up Lesa, pitched her the plan and boom, we were in business!
Lesa and I coordinated to book flights on Southwest, our hotel rooms at The Lexington and make a ton of fun reservations all without my dad having a clue. The plan was for me to fly in on Thursday to visit a friend from study abroad, then dad and Lesa to fly in on Friday afternoon. Lesa told my dad they were going to spend the weekend in Kansas City (I lol every time I talk about this), but when they were driving down there she broke the news that they weren’t staying in KC and that they were actually headed to the airport. HE HAD NO IDEA!
While all this was happening, I made my way to our hotel in the city and waited for them to arrive. Waiting for them to knock on the door of the room (my dad thought concierge was in there setting up a surprise) was like torture! I was so excited to surprise my dad! When they were finally there and I heard the knock, I don’t even know what I said when I opened the door, I basically just screamed. I knew right away the entire thing had been a success. The look on my dad’s face was priceless and made keeping the secret a million percent worth it!!
We had an amazing trip to say the least. Ate a ton of great food and checked out so many different neighborhoods. My dad is an incredible human being and I’m so glad I could spend my 25th birthday checking off something on his bucket list!
Restaurants and bars we went to include: The Russian Tea Room, Hotel Chantelle, Refinery Rooftop, Havana NY, Sushi Roxx, Gloo and Carmine's. Let me know if you have any questions about any of the places we went!
Take a look at our trip!
